Frequently asked questions
How do I pair two phones?
On phone A open Our home and choose to invite your partner with a QR code. On phone B choose scan. Both screens show the same 6 digits; if they match, tap Match.
The two phones do not match. What now?
Open Emberlo on both phones with internet on; the app catches up by itself. See the status on the Me tab under Two phones, and tap it to sync now. If they still differ, use Resync from scratch, described in the next question.
What does “Resync from scratch” do?
On the Me tab choose Resync from scratch. Your phone sends the whole shared book again and asks the other phone to send its part. It deletes nothing. Entries in your Private pocket and For later are never sent.
How do I back up my book?
On the Me tab choose Encrypted backup. The app gives you 16 recovery words and a backup file to save where you choose. Emberlo keeps neither, so store both somewhere safe.
I changed phones. How do I get my book back?
Install Emberlo on the new phone, choose restore (or Me, Restore on a new phone), and enter your 16 recovery words with the backup file you saved. If you lose both the phone and the 16 words, we cannot recover the book.
I lost my phone. What do I do?
Restore on a new phone with your backup file and 16 words. Lock or erase the old phone with Apple’s or Google’s find-my-device; the app’s data is encrypted anyway. If you lost both the phone and the words, we cannot get your book back.
How do I export my data?
On the Me tab choose Export the ledger (CSV). The CSV file is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere safe. Exporting is always free.
How do I leave the shared home?
Choose “Leave the shared home” on the Me tab to stop syncing. Whatever data is on a phone stays on that phone.
I bought a plan but the app still shows the free version.
Tap Restore purchases on the plan screen, with internet on and the same Apple or Google account that bought it. If that does not help, send us the order id from your receipt email and we will check.
How do I redeem an offer code on iPhone?
Open the App Store, tap your profile picture, choose Redeem Gift Card or Code, then type or scan the code. Or open the redemption link we sent you. Your plan appears in Emberlo once the transaction completes.
How do I redeem a gift code on Android?
Open Google Play, tap your profile picture, choose Payments and subscriptions, then Redeem gift code, and enter the code. See Google’s guide. For a code like EMB-…, follow the instructions sent with it.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Cancel in your store account settings at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Deleting the app does not cancel it. See the guides for Apple and for Google Play.
I want a refund.
Apple or Google processes the payment, so they decide refunds. See how to ask: Apple, Google Play. If you need help, write to us and we will walk you through it.
How do I delete all my data?
Your ledger is on your phone: Me, Leave the shared home, Start a new household, or uninstall the app. The relay deletes a sync packet once the other phone receives it, and after 14 days at most. For plan records and gift codes see the data deletion page.
I want to turn off the evening reminder.
Go to the Me tab, the evening reminder section, and turn it off or change the time. Emberlo reminds you at most once per evening.
Does Emberlo collect my data?
Emberlo has no account and no advertising or analytics SDKs. Apple or Google processes payments; we receive only a transaction id and plan status. The details are in the Privacy Policy.
